Janice Elise Bloxsom, 68, of Charlottesville, VA, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014.
Jan was born on May 30, 1946 in Derby, Connecticut and grew up in Stratford, Connecticut.
Jan graduated from Notre Dame of Fairfield High School. She attended the University of New Haven and the Paier College of Art.
Jan was the daughter of David and Helen McCoy, who preceded her in death.
Jan is survived by her husband of 45 years, Gary; her sons, Matt (Devon) of Earlysville, VA and Jeff (Kate) of Ivy, VA; her brothers, David (Suzanne) of Sedona, AZ, and Sean (Sara) of Charlottesville. She is also survived by her cherished grandsons whom she adored: Mason, Beau, Colt, Sam, Ty and Jeb. Jan often said her favorite sounds were the grandsons rushing into the home calling, “MeMe, MeMe!” These six grandboys allowed her to face her daily struggles with Parkinson’s in an upbeat and positive manner.
Jan was a Real Estate Agent for HasBrouck Real Estate Corporation for over 24 years. During her professional career she was the recipient of numerous sales, service and ethical awards. Jan volunteered at both Christ Episcopal Church and at the election polls in Charlottesville. She supported her sons and grandchildren in all their school and sport activities including baseball, football, soccer and swimming.
Jan liked to travel to the warmer climates. These family excursions included trips to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, all of the Bahamas and the Indies. Key West and Kiawah Island were also two favorite destinations. She so enjoyed her time at the family summer house in Nags Head, NC. Whether spending time beaching, pooling or crabbing with the family or hosting the annual Marine Corps Birthday Reunion of PLT 2027 Parris Island 1966, her times there were always highlights of the year.
Whether attending baseball, basketball or football games at the University of Virginia, she was always ardent in her support of the teams.
Jan will be missed by many. Her daily concern and interest in others was part of her nature. She showed poise and courage in battling her Parkinson’s on a daily basis. Those who knew and loved Jan will forever be grateful for our time shared with her.
A memorial service was held at 11:00 am on Monday July 28, 2014 at Christ Episcopal Church, with the Reverend Paul Walker officiating. Interment will be private.
