The CIAC Football Committee met on July 24, at the CIAC Office in Cheshire. In attendance and providing input and approval were representative physicians from the CT State Medical Society Sport Medicine Committee.
Pending approval by the CIAC Board of Control, the football committee has made the following proposal for the 2015 football season:
Considering the safety and well-being of student-athletes, the CIAC Football Committee, along with representatives from the State Medical Society Sport Medicine Committee, have proposed a three-game playoff series for the 2015 season starting after Thanksgiving.
Highlights of the proposal are: There must be four to five days between games during the three-game playoff series starting the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (specific days yet to be determined).
Regular season would be limited to 10 contests including any league playoffs.
One week would be added to the season allowing for a bye week with zero live contact.
Person-to-person contact during practice would be limited as follows: pre-season: weeks 2-3, maximum of 120 minutes per week,  during the competition season: maximum of 90 minutes per week,  games 1 to 9 bye week: zero (no) contact allowed, after game nine: 45 minutes of live person to person contact.
If a game 9 is played Thursday, Friday or Saturday prior to Thanksgiving, no live contact will be allowed between games 9 and 10 after game 10 (the tournament period): no live person to person contact allowed.
Week one of the pre-season (five days including Sunday) is conditioning only with no contact.
All schools with football are required to participate in the RIO Injury Surveillance study for football only.
Number of teams qualifying for the postseason will be limited to 32.
All of the above will be conducted as a two-year trial (2015-16)
All of the above is pending CIAC Board of Control approval. The board will meet in late August and mid September.
