Firefighters battle a blaze Tuesday on Southwind Lane.

The Milford Fire Department responded to 31 Southwind Lane for a building fire in an end unit of a four unit condominium at 7:09 a.m. Tuesday.

Upon arrival, fire was seen coming from the second floor windows and Milford fire crews began an aggressive interior attack, said Fire Department Spokesman Greg Carman.

“The fire was quickly extinguished and was contained to the second floor of the unit, which received extensive fire damage,” Carman said. “There was some smoke and water damage to the first floor of the unit. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported to any of the fire department personnel.”

The occupant’s pet cat was rescued and returned to its owners, Carman said.

The adjoining unit did receive some minor smoke damage, but all three of the units are habitable.

The fire marshal’s office has begun investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
