A Milford man was charged with cruelty to animals for hitting a police dog that was involved in apprehending him during an incident Dec. 6.
According to police, on Dec. 6, officers responded to a Cornflower Drive address on a complaint of domestic violence. Nicholas DeMayo, 47, was arrested and charged with engaging in a physical altercation with a juvenile male inside the home.
While being placed under arrest DeMayo tried to run into his house, which led to him fighting with the officers, police said. The situation ended with the deployment of a police dog, which police said DeMayo also struck during the scuffle.
DeMayo was charged with disorderly conduct, interfering/resisting arrest, assault on police personnel, and cruelty to animals. Bond was set at $10,000, and he was scheduled to appear in court Dec. 7.
