Milford Scouts collected and sorted food over a 48-hour period November 13 to 15 to make sure local kitchens were stocked for the holiday.

The Scouts camped out at Milford’s Wasson Field, collecting and sorting food donations from residents and staffing tables at local supermarkets.

Over the last 10 years, Milford Scouts have collected more than 85,000 pounds of food and 2,300 turkeys; and received more than $15,000 for the cause.

During the most recent collection, the Scouts collected 250 turkeys and $2,000. The food will help fill St. Mary’s and the Milford Food Bank pantries. Donations will also go to the Christian Cornerstone food pantry.

Participating Scouts included Troops 1 and 196, Packs 7,13, 17 and 196, Girls Scouts 30139 and 30309, plus the Jonathan Law High School Key Club and other local high school students.

Tri City Appliance helped with deliveries, and Stop and Shop, Adams supermarket and ShopRite allowed volunteers to collect food at their stores.
