Special Olympics Connecticut will present a grand-scale event when the Unified Relay Across America presented by Bank of America comes to Milford and towns throughout the state.
The relay will give everyone in the country a chance to carry the Flame of Hope as it makes its way across the USA to Los Angeles, California – the site of the Special Olympics World Games. Over the course of 46 days, in a hand-to-hand exchange, more than 20,000 participants will take part in the relay as it passes through all 50 states.
The relay will pass through Milford on May 30. Lisa Kovlakas of ESPN is inviting Milford schools that have unified sports programs to participate.
Kovlakas said she needs 13 more people to be part of a team to raise funds and walk a half-mile segment.
To sign up to be part of the Milford Unified 15-person team, contact Kovlakas at lisa.kovlakas@espn.com.
Kovlakas also is trying to organize an event on the Milford green that will bring together the community to cheer on the relay and showcase the sports programs in Milford. Those interested may also contact her at lisa.kovlakas@espn.com.
ESPN and ABC are the official media partners of the Unified Relay Across America presented by Bank of America.
