HS roundup: Foran wins

The Foran High girls basketball team was rewarded for a season’s worth of hard work on Friday when the Lions defeated visiting Wilbur Cross from New Haven, 46-45.
Lauren Notholt made two free throws with nine seconds left to lift coach Stephanie Hiriak’s team to its first victory of the season.
Notholt scored 14 points and was 6-for-8 from the foul line for Foran (1-10).
Lindsay Broderick scored 10 points. Zinnia Hall had eight and Jenna Zacarelli, Jade Lord and Viktoria Notholt scored four points each. Jessica McQuade had a basket.
Tiler McPherson made a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 16 points for Wilbur Cross (1-10).
Foran is home to North Haven (5-6) on Friday and Guilford (8-4) on Wednesday.
Law girls hoop
Coach Dan Young’s Eagles finished the first half of the season at 7-3 and split last week’s second half openers.
Law defeated North Haven 70-62 on Jan. 20, and was edged out 45-44 by Career High from New Haven on Friday.
Law will host Wilbur Cross Friday and Daniel Hand from Madison (9-1) on Wednesday. Hand defeated Law, 81-67, on Jan. 6.
Jessica Centore scored 19 points for the Eagles in their loss to the Career Panthers (10-2).
Law took a 36-33 lead into the third quarter before Brooklyn Davis (18 points) led the Panther rally.
Laura Dulin scored 14 points, with a trio of 3-pointers.
In the victory over North Haven, Dulin buried four 3-pointers and finished with 22 points. She was 8-for-10 from the foul line.
Erin Saley scored 20 points with a trey and a 7-for-10 performance from the stripe.
Centore had 17 points and Paige Szygiel nine.
Law boys swim
Jonathan Law and Kennedy High of Waterbury swam to a 90-90 tie on Tuesday.
Leading the way with individual firsts for coach Asli Kizavul’s Lawmen were Kevin Keramis (200 freestyle and 500 freestyle), Jake Gwirtz (50 freestyle and 100 backstroke), Colby Brennan (100 butterfly) and Jay Myers (100 freestyle).
Gwirtz, James Mercaldo, Amar Almidani and Myers were best in the 200 medley relay.
Almidani, Brennan, Myers and Keramis were first in the 200 freestyle relay.
Keramis, Mercaldo, Brennan and Gwirtz won the 400 freestyle relay.
