A mother and son were able to safely get out of their Cherry Street apartment Wednesday morning when fire broke out.
The Milford Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a structure fire in the apartment/office complex at 67 Cherry Street at 6:44 a.m. Wednesday .
The first arriving firefighters found smoke coming from the unit, and fire was found in the second floor unit in the area of a closet, fire officials said.
“The Fire Department was able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire while additional crews ventilated the roof and checked the surrounding units for extension of the fire,” said Fire Department Spokesman Greg Carman.
The occupants, a mother and son, were able to exit the building without any harm, along with the other residents on that floor. The unit did receive some damage from fire, heat and smoke. There was some smoke damage found in the adjoining units and an office area below sustained some water damage, Carman said.
The Milford Fire Marshal’s office is investigating for the cause.
