State Rep. Kim Rose of the 118th district was elected president of the Travis C. Kitchen VFW Post 7788 Devon Ladies Auxiliary last week in Milford.
Rose has been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary in Devon for more than 10 years and has served several terms as junior vice-president.
“As a member of the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs in Hartford and the mother of an Afghanistan War veteran, it is an honor to have been elected president of the Travis C. Kitchen VFW Post 7788 Devon Ladies Auxiliary,” Rose said. “I’m looking forward to serving the Ladies Auxiliary as president and will seek to expand the great services we have to offer to our local veterans and our active duty service families.”
Each year the Ladies Auxiliary supports Post 7788 with community services such as patriotic programs, bingo, hospital visits and offers a scholarship program to local high school students.
“If you are a wife or widow, mother, grandmother, daughter or even a granddaughter of a veteran who served during war time on foreign soil you are eligible to become a member of the Ladies Auxiliary,” Rose said, adding that foster children, stepmothers and stepdaughters/stepsisters are also eligible for membership.
“We hope to accomplish many things going forward,” Rose said, “We’ll be kicking off a ‘Milford Welcomes Veterans’ discount program this year as our major project,” Rose said. “We will be reaching out to area professionals and businesses and ask that they offer a veterans discount, we will then compile the list and distribute it to all of Milford’s veteran organizations.”
The Ladies Auxiliary will be also looking to assist family members of active duty service members.
