Lindsay Capobianco helps win title

The Lakewood-Trumbull YMCA Level 5 gymnastics team captured the YMCA Southern Leagues Gymnastics Championships, beating out the Wilton Family YMCA by .425.
Showcasing their dedication and hard work under coaches Andrew Campbell and Hayley Foster, the girls competed well.
The compulsory level gymnasts had impressive routines all day, which earned them multiple high scores and places on the podium.
For the Level 3s, Talia Lalli (Trumbull) hit her bar routine scoring a 9.2. Lindsay Capobianco (Milford) scored a 9.3 on the floor exercise, with Ella Picci (Monroe) following close behind with a 9.2.
Picci had extremely solid performances throughout the day, scoring 9.2s on both beam and floor as well. She placed fourth in the all-around in her age group with a 36.25.
Leading the pack for the Level 4s was Samantha Bacarella (Trumbull), who scored a 9.3 on vault and 9.2 on bars. Bacarella scored high in the all around with a 36.15. Olivia Cross (Monroe) also excelled on vault with a score of a 9.2.
The Level 5s produced multiple high scores on the floor exercise with Ella Rigby (Monroe) scoring a remarkable 9.55, Julia Brennan (Monroe) scoring a 9.4, Kaitlyn Hirsch (Monroe) scoring a 9.3, and Olivia Hogan scoring a 9.2. Brennan finished out the day with a strong 35.8 all around.
The optional and Xcel level gymnasts also hit their routines and had successful meets
For the Level 7s, Mikayla Bobkoskie (Shelton) and Denise Hallstrom (Trumbull) shone on bars, scoring a 9.1 and 9.0, respectively.
Level 8s Sara Rodia (Shelton) and Alison Forger (Monroe) both placed first in the all around in their age groups.
Rodia also placed first on vault and beam, while Forger won bars and floor.
Xcel Silver Jennifer Zucca (Monroe) scored high on bars with a 9.4, while Xcel Gold Allyson Smith (Monroe) scored a 9.1.
Foster said, “I couldn’t be any happier. These girls have so much heart and dedication. No matter what the outcome was at this meet, I was already so proud of everyone.”
The Lakewood-Trumbull YMCA, a branch of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA, gymnastics program provides general preschool, school-aged, and competitive programs and camps to children ages 12 months and up.
