Monday’s snow left the ground covered; now the city waits to see what comes next.
Here comes the second of the latest winter-weather one-two punch.
Another significant winter storm is expected to leave up to eight inches of snow and a coating of ice by the end of the day Wednesday, Feb. 5.
The day after a storm dropped six to eight inches in Milford, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for southwestern Connecticut. It is in effect from midnight to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
While the storm is expected to bring mostly snow, some sleet and freezing rain is in the forecast, and could make for a slippery evening commute Wednesday. Snow accumulations, according to the weather service, could range from four to eight inches along with a 10th of an inch of ice.
The snowstorm is expected to start late Tuesday night and last through Wednesday morning before the snow mixes with and changes to sleet and freezing rain later Wednesday, according to the weather service.
During the height of the storm, which could last up 18 hours, visibilities will be decreased to a quarter to a half mile.
The weather service is also warning of ice Tuesday morning in the area. “Temperatures in the teens and 20s this morning has resulted in refreezing of melted snow from yesterday’s storm,” the service said in a special weather statement issued Tuesday morning. “Untreated sidewalks and roads will make walking and driving hazardous. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to use caution.”
Milford and some schools in the area had a delayed opening Tuesday.
