Phil Lorenzo of Milford and Amy Brandstatter of Fairfield will be featured in Eastbound Theatre’s Chapter Two.
Eastbound Theatre, a division of the Milford Arts Council, will present the second show of its 20th season, the heartwarming comedy, Chapter Two, written by Neil Simon and directed by Tom Rushen.
The production will run from Feb. 7 through Feb. 23 at the Milford Center for Arts. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m.; Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m.
The show features Amy Brandstatter of Fairfield, Ann Kinner of Westport, Bruce Murray of Stratford, and Phil Lorenzo of Milford.
George is a writer. Jennie is an actress. George lost his wife. Jennie divorced her husband. George’s brother Leo and Jennie’s friend Faye both think George and Jennie would be perfect together. When they meet, the chemistry is unmistakable. But can either of them trust themselves enough to put the past aside and take the next step in writing the story of their lives?
Winner of a Pulitzer Prize for his play Lost In Yonkers and a Tony Award for The Odd Couple, Neil Simon is one of the best known and most beloved American playwrights. His characters and material are often auto-biographical, which lends a unique dimension to his work. Audiences also identify with the imperfections and foibles of the characters, who can make them laugh even while dealing with serious topics.
Director Tom Rushen explains his enthusiasm for this piece.
“When it comes to love, sometimes we’re our own worst enemies,” Rushen said. “This play shows both sides of the coin, the great feeling of falling for someone and the work it takes to keep on the path. Even though these characters have legitimate reasons to be gun shy, you really do root for them to take that leap. Simon created some incredibly special people here. “
