Sources say the historic Sanford Bristol house in downtown Milford has been saved.
Although there is no official confirmation yet, people involved with the project said the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation has agreed to buy the house, with the intention of then selling it to a private buyer.
Milford City Historian Richard Platt said he thinks the press will be fully informed about the deal in the next few days.
“I don’t know all the details yet,” Platt said. “It looks like we’re moving forward, but I’m not jumping up and down yet.”
Earlier this year, Bill Farrell, who had recently bought the house at 111-113 North Street, went before the Historic District Commission to ask permission to demolish it and build a new one using some of the materials from the historic 1790 house.
The commission approved his request based on reports that the structure was unsound.
Several groups, including the Milford Preservation Trust, then took the Farrells to court to try to keep them from demolishing the house. There, the two sides agreed that the Farrells would sell the house if a buyer committed to restoring it came forward and a deal was finalized by Jan. 12.
