After dropping its season’s opener, a 59-40 decision to Lyman Hall of Wallingford on Dec. 11, the Foran High girls basketball team rebounded with a 49-36 victory over North Haven on Friday night in a Southern Connecticut Conference game played at the Edna Fraser Gym in Milford.
The Lions took a 14-7 first-quarter lead only to see the Indians (1-1) rally in the second quarter, creating a 21-18 halftime score.
Led by 27 points from junior guard Jill Johnson, North Haven closed to within a point, 25-24, with a little over two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
The Lions followed by mounting a comeback to take a 33-26 lead after three, and pulled away in the fourth quarter where senior guard Teneya McLaughlin scored 10 of her team-high 18 points. She also had five assists and two steals.
McLaughlin got help from sophomore center Taylor Ceballos, who along with 11 points, picked up 15 rebounds.
Foran resumes play tomorrow night when the Lions visit Shelton (0-1) before returning home to meet Wilbur Cross (0-1) of New Haven on Friday night.
Then the team will be off until it competes in the Westhill (Stamford) Christmas Tournament on Thursday and Saturday of the following week.
