Irish festival is September 18 and 19
The Irish Heritage Society of Milford will host its 10th Annual Irish Festival on Sept. 18 and 19, rain or shine, in downtown Milford. The festival kicks-off on Friday, Sept. 18 from 6 to 11 p.m. A full day of Irish festivities will take place on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is $5 Friday and $12 Saturday for those 12 years and older. A two day pass is $15.

Step by Step kicks off September 19
The Annual ‘Step by Step to a Healthier Milford’ will kick off on Saturday, Sept. 19, 9 a.m., at the Walnut Beach Pavilion, presented by the Milford Regional Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Health & Wellness Council,’ (HWC). This six-week self-monitored walking program is designed to foster a healthier community, and benefits a student scholarship fund. Solo and walking teams are invited. A wrap-up celebration will take place on Monday, Nov. 9, 5:30 p.m. at the Milford Hospital. Guest speaker is motivational speaker Betsy Ratner. Superhero 5K set for September 20
On Sunday, Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Woodruff Family YMCA, Milford Prevention Council and Woodruff Family YMCA will hold its second Superhero 5K and Family Fun Day, including a dunk tank, obstacle course, face painting, food trucks, bounce house and more. Awards will be given out to the 5K runners with the best race times. There will be a costume parade and contest. Civil War is topic September 21
Connecticut’s role in the Civil War is the topic of the Sept. 21 meeting of the Milford Historical Society at the Mary Taylor Memorial Methodist Church on the Green, 168 Broad St. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. St. Mary’s Carnival September 25-27

The Devon Rotary Club will hold its 27th Annual Milford Oktoberfest, sponsored by Milford Bank, on Saturday, Sept. 26 from noon to 9 p.m. at the Rotary Pavilion at Fowler Field behind the Milford Public Library. This year’s Biergarten will feature 14 Oktoberfest and craft beers on tap. Entertainment lineup features German Dancers, an Oom-Pah Band, and local favorites Rum Runners and Total Hacks. Water for Africa walk is October 3
Uganda Farmers Inc. is a nonprofit organization that brings clean, running water to remote villages in Africa. The main fundraiser is the Running Water for Africa 5K Race/Walk being held on Saturday, Oct. 3, starting at 9 a.m. at a new location this year, Walnut Beach. Specially designed t-shirts will be provided to all pre-registered and the first 60 registrants on race day. The proceeds of this year’s event will benefit the village of Nganiko. The Milford Hospital Auxiliary will host its annual Scholarship Tea on Thursday, Oct. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Milford Yacht Club, 131 Trumbull Ave. A fashion show featuring clothing and accessories from the Enchanted Window Gift Shop will highlight the gathering and will be available at a 20% discount, cash or checks.
