Tree falls in Old Greenwich, seriously injures Milford man

A “massive” tree fell Friday in Old Greenwich, landing on a plumbing contractor who lives in Milford.

Greenwich police said the incident happened at about 1:15 p.m. Greenwich first responders were dispatched to Benjamin Street in Old Greenwich on a report of a massive tree falling and striking a man.

Upon arrival Greenwich firefighters removed the male patient from underneath the large tree and Greenwich Emergency Medical Service paramedics began medical aid. The patient is a plumbing contractor from Milford who had been preparing to get into his vehicle when the tree fell on him, police said.

The patient was transported from the scene to Stamford Hospital with serious injuries.

Several vehicles were also damaged by the tree. The Greenwich Tree Department was on standby to remove the tree which had closed off Benjamin Street.

The Greenwich Police is collaborating with the Greenwich Tree Department to determine all the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident, according to a police report.
