A Milford businessman was arrested last week on insurance fraud charges for allegedly claiming flood damage from Superstorm Sandy.
State officials said that Anthony Monaco, 42, owner of Lombard Motors at 140 Gando Drive, New Haven, and Anthony’s High Tech Auto Center, 451 New Haven Avenue, Milford claimed damage to heavy duty trucks.
He was arrested on a warrant Nov. 18. The Connecticut State Police Auto Theft Task Force served the warrant without incident as he left his home at 424 Anderson Avenue.
State police also served a warrant to Ronald Langlois, general manager at Anthony’s High Tech Auto Center.
Both men were charged with insurance fraud. Monaco was also charged with larceny.
The arrests were the result of an investigation concerning complaints filed by Monaco’s insurance carrier, in which Monaco and Langlois allegedly filed claims of damage from flood waters caused by Storm Sandy in October, 2012 for four of Monaco’s heavy duty trucks.
“These flood damage claims were later determined to be fraudulent,” state officials said in a press release.
Monaco was released from police custody on a $40,000 bond, for a court date of Dec. 3 in Milford and Dec. 5 in New Haven.
Langlois, 54, of Cheshire, was released on a $10,000 bond for a court date of Dec. 3 in Milford.
