The Milford Concert Band, under the direction of Duane Berge, will kick off the 2015 Summer Nights by Harbor Lights Concert Series with “Star Spangled Spectacular” in conjunction with The Milford Chamber of Commerce Trust and sponsored by Kapusta and Otzel & Averaimo Attorneys at Law.
The concert is free and will be held Friday evening, June 12, at 7 p.m. at Fowler Field Rotary Pavilion.
There are three themes to this year’s show. It will open with “Star Spangled Spectacular,” dedicated to Flag Day. The second portion will be dedicated to Connecticut composer Richard Rodgers, including the soundtrack to the classic miniseries “Victory at Sea.”
The third theme will be “1001 Arabian Nights” with the Symphonic Band score to Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” along with a standard pop and rock legends medley.
This is the 23rd season of the Milford Concert Band and the second season as conductor for local music teacher Duane Berge.
“We are a community of volunteer musicians dedicated to providing family appropriate high quality performances to local audiences of all ages,” Berge said.
The band rehearses Monday evenings at 7:30 p.m. at the Fowler Memorial Building; although, during the summer months they try to have their Monday sessions at various outdoor locations around town for the public to enjoy. Go to Facebook page to see the performance calendar.
The concert is free and open to the public. The Fowler Memorial Pavilion is at the corner of New Haven Avenue and Shipyard Lane in back of the library. The community is welcome at the end of the concert to meet the band and share concert experiences.
