Monday, June 8 — 9:30 arts and crafts; 10 rhythm and blues, ballroom aerobics; 10:30 low vision; 11 ballroom cardio; 1 bingo, mah jongg, scrabble, art class; 4 line dance; 5:15 pickleball; 6:30 book club meets last Monday of month, model railroad group.

Tuesday, June 9 — 9 beginners line dance; 9:30 stretch, strengthen and stabilize; 10 ceramics, gospel choir; 10:30 osteoporosis preventative class; 1 club C meeting followed by bingo, book club last Tuesday of the month, social security benefits seminar; 1:30 tap dance; 2 women’s club meeting third Tuesday of the month, quilting group; 4:15 yoga.

Wednesday, June 10 — 9:30 rhythm & blues, intermediate tai chi, beading group; 10 MSC band rehearsal, country western line dance class, beginners bridge; 10:30 beginners tai chi; 1 French, bingo, Wii bowling.

Thursday, June 11 — 9:30 computer class for beginners, next session begins July 9; 10 writers unlimited June 18, line dance; 11 computer intermediate class, next session begins July 9; 1 Spanish, Wii bowling, knitting, bingo, osteoporosis — what is it?

Friday, June 12 — 9-11:30 free haircuts, call Nancy Reed, 203-877-5131, ext. 2145; 9 ceramics; 9:30 stretch, strengthen and stabalize; 10 creative writing class; 10:30 Linda’s choral group; 1 mahjongg, Flag Day-Senior Center Band, Choral Group program, open to public; 1:30 pickleball, however, on movie matinee days, starts at 3.

Sunday, June 14 — Center is open noon-4 for cards and bingo, billiards and special program events. Pool room is open Monday-Friday, 9-4:30 and Sunday, noon-4.

Lunch offered Monday-Friday, 12:15. Complete dinner, $3, includes soup, dinner & dessert; sandwich dinner, $1.75, includes sandwich, soup & dessert; sandwich only, $1.25; soup only $.50. Peanut butter and jelly sandwich or tossed salad offered daily for $1; hot dogs, $1.50.

Senior lunch June 8-12 — Monday, crispy chicken sandwich, pickles, macaroni salad; Tuesday, spaghetti with meatballs, tossed salad, Italian bread; Wednesday, Bar-B-Que pork, macaroni and cheese, creamed spinach; Thursday, sliced turkey with gravy, stuffing, peas; Friday, breaded fish, cole slaw, potatoes.

Musical instrument donations sought — Linda Whittaker, band director at the Milford Senior Center is seeking used band instruments for use by band members. On several occasions, seniors have asked to play in the band but their high school or military instruments are long gone. The players could find enjoyment again, if there were instruments for them to borrow. All donations are tax deductible. Call 203-877-2134 for additional information.

Glockenspiel and clarinet plays needed — According to Whittaker, “A glockenspiel and B-flat clarinet have been donated to the Milford Senior Center for use by band members. Not many people have played glockenspiel, but if you have played piano or organ in the past, it would take only a week or two to learn to play the ‘clock.’ “Call Linda Whittaker, Milford Senior Center Band Director at 203 877-2134 if you are interested.

Choral group seeks singers — Singers age 55 and older are invited to join Linda Whittaker’s Choral Group on Friday mornings from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. in the Music Room at the Senior Center, 9 Jepson Drive. The group will be preparing music for the annual Flag Day program starting May 22. Call Linda Whittaker at 203 877-2134 for information.

Band instrument plays needed — Linda Whittaker, band director at the Milford Senior Center, extends an invitation to seniors to join the band. All instruments are welcome, but flutes, clarinets, and alto saxes are especially needed at this time. Also, any bass instrument, bass guitar, bass keyboard, electric bass is desperately needed. The only requirement to join is to have one’s own instrument (except keyboards which can be provided) and be able to play it, at least a bit beyond beginner level. People who play piano keyboard are welcome to play some of the single line instrumental parts on the keyboard. Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 10-noon, in the Music Room at the end of the hall. The Band plays at several afternoon Senior Center events throughout the year. Call Linda at 203-877-5131 or 203-877-2134 a few days ahead, so she can prepare a music binder for you before you arrive.

Ahrens program — Service offered to individuals with cognitive impairments who require a supervised environment at the Center. The Ahrens Program is currently accepting seniors with cognitive impairments. For more information, call Jean Kaluzynski, Social Service Worker at 203-877-5131, ext. 2139.

DAV Chapter 15 donates to the Center — Disabled Veterans of America, Chapter 15, has donated a reading device to the Milford Senior Center for individuals affected with macular degeneration.

Art classes — Art classes are held each Friday, 1:30-3, Ceramics Room. Free paint and brushes.

Low Vision group — meets the second Monday of the month, 10:30 a.m.

Memoir workshop — Workshop participants meet every other Thursday, 10-11:30, card room.

Writing is prompted by subjects presented by Judy, such as one’s childhood home, the look, the feel, and the smells and sounds that remind us of our favorite Christmas, our first car, television in the early days, a job we liked or disliked, friends through the years or lessons we’ve learned through our life.

Participants will create a self portrait for future generations.

Center membership — Membership at the Center is open to Milford’s older adults, 55 and over. Annual fee: $10. Interested residents may sign up at the Center or call Mary Steinmetz, 203-877-5131.

Model Railroad Club — The formation of the Center’s Model Railroad Club has begun. Membership is open to all Milford residents age 55 and older.

The HO scale of model railroading will be used. Donations of any model railroading equipment or any scale and cash donations are accepted.

Treasure Chest Consignment and Craft Shop — Open Monday to Thursday, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; Friday, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Pool room open daily, and Monday & Thursdays, 6-8.

Volunteers sought — The Ahrens Program, at the Milford Senior Center, provides recreational, nutrition and educational activities for older adults with physical and cognitive impairments. This program enables caregivers several hours of respite while the participant is being supervised by staff members and volunteers.
