Environmentalists and budding scientists of all ages are invited to the Milford Public Library Wednesday, May 27 at 7 p.m. to learn how to help increase public awareness of the Atlantic Horseshoe crab, its connection to Milford’s Long Island Sound ecosystem, to the economy and to people’s health.
Jennifer Mattei, Ph.D. from Sacred Heart University, is spearheading Project Limulus, a community-based endeavor to examine the ecology of the horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus).
The project’s goal is to empower all people to become active contributors to ongoing scientific research, potentially influencing the direction of conservation programs.
There are multiple levels of involvement, so whether a person is a casual beach walker or are willing to become a trained “crab counter,” they have an important role to play helping with scientific research.
No registration is necessary. Project Limulus is supported by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund and CT Sea Grant.
