Milford will begin its 2015 bulk waste pickup program on Wednesday, May 6.
According to the mayor’s office, all homeowners are asked to honor the schedule and not place bulk waste at the curb any sooner than the Saturday prior to their scheduled pickup. All items are to be at the curb by 6 a.m. on the scheduled pickup date.
Homeowners must properly prepare and separate the bulky waste. Metal must be separated from burnable items. Yard waste should be placed in disposable containers or bags. Brush and wood must be cut to four-foot lengths and tied in bundles. No more than four passenger car tires may be included in the items set out for collection.
Where possible, similar items should be placed together in containers, which the homeowner wishes to discard. All acceptable items placed at the curb will be taken, including containers, city officials said.
Prohibited materials
Certain items are prohibited from the bulky waste pickup program. The following items will not be picked up, and therefore, should not be placed at the curb:
1. Batteries
2. Commercial Items
3. Logs and Stumps
4. Concrete or cement
5. Any item requiring more than 2 men to pick up
6. Hazardous Waste
7. Liquid Waste, oil based paint, motor oil
8. Propane Tanks
9. Grass Clippings
10. Sheetrock and Demolition material
Sheetrock and demolition material must be brought to Waste Conversion, 211 Old Gate Lane, Milford. It is not accepted at the transfer station.
The following is the bulk trash pickup schedule
If your garbage day is Monday, your bulk pickup will be Wednesday, May 6.
If your garbage pickup day is Tuesday, your bulk trash pickup will be Wednesday, May 13.
If your garbage pickup day is Thursday, your bulk trash pickup day is Wednesday, May 20.
If your garbage pickup day is Friday, your bulk trash pickup day is Wednesday, May 27.
White goods
Residents should call the public works office at 203-783-3265, the Monday before their pickup if they have white goods, such as stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers and hot water heaters.
Condominiums
For condominiums registered with a condominium association, the bulk trash pickup will be June 24.
