Residents are reminded they can help firefighters by digging out fire hydrants after major snowstorms.
When snow accumulates, some hydrants can be difficult to access — and that could lead to disaster in an emergency.
If a fire hydrant is near your home or business, residents — if possible — are urged to help keep it clear of snow for prompt access by firefighters.
What is recommended is clearing a path from the street to the hydrant, then three feet around the hydrant on the remaining three sides. Snow should not be shoveled into the street.
