Milford’s open space manager Steven Johnson is inviting residents to join him in learning about frogs.

Johnson plans to attend a workshop that teaches people how to monitor frogs, and he is encouraging others to sign up.

“The health of our lands, water and air is important to all of us,” Johnson said. “Frogs are a wonderful window into the health of the environment that we all depend on.”

Training is being offered by the Peabody Museum, which is looking for volunteers to help monitor frog populations in nearby wetlands during the spring and summer.

The time commitment is 15 minutes one or two times per week, a half hour after sunset, according to a museum notice.

Training is being co-sponsored by Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo and is free for Yale Peabody Museum and Beardsley Zoo members and $10 for non-member families.

frogTraining dates are Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the Yale Peabody Museum auditorium from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Snow date is Friday, Feb. 27.

Another session will be Wednesday, March 4, at the Hanson Center of Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The snow date is Friday, March 6.
