State police have given out more than 1,700 tickets and made 14 DUI arrests so far this holiday weekend.
Connecticut troopers have had more staff on patrol since Tuesday, Nov. 25. Additional patrol on all roads and highways in the state is focusing on drunk driving and aggressive drivers through Sunday, according to Lt. J. Paul Vance of the state police.
Sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols are in place all over the state this weekend, according to police. That effort, police said, will continue through the holiday season.
From midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 25, through 8:15 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, state police have given out 448 tickets for speeding, 138 for seatbelt violations, and another 1,101 that include distracted driving, unsafe lane changes, following too close, failure to signal and others.
State police have also made 14 DUI arrests since Tuesday.
There have been 512 accidents across the state over that time period, 65 of which included injuries, and one fatality in Norwalk.
Over the holiday weekend — which is really a six-day span — in 2013, state police handed out 1,134 speeding tickets, 170 seatbelt violations, 2,548 hazardous moving violations, 43 DUIs; and investigated 562 accidents, 92 of which included injuries, and one fatality.
