Milford Hospital screens for Alpha-1 Deficiency on Monday

FI-save-the-date-MMAlpha-1, also known as Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, is a genetic disorder that is passed on by parents to their children.  The condition results in low levels or no levels of protein in the blood which can cause serious lung and or liver disease.

On Monday, Nov. 17,  Milford Hospital will offer a free Alpha -1 screening. The test is a simple finger stick and is a quick, painless and highly accurate detection too.

Alpha-1 screening may be recommended for people who have a family history of the disease or have any of the following medical conditions:  COPD,  Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis, Asthma, Chronic or unexplained liver disease,  chronic or frequent coughs.

The free screenings are made possible through the Milford Hospital Live Well Fund and will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Milford Hospital at 300 Seaside Avenue in Milford. An appointment is required: call 203-876-4004 to schedule.
