by Kim Rose
Incumbent State Rep. 118th District
It has been my privilege to serve as your voice in Hartford as your state representative and with your support I would like to continue to work on your behalf.
We have accomplished a lot but there is more that needs to be done. I voted no to tax increases in Connecticut. Working with my fellow members of the Milford delegation we have not only been able to maintain state funding to Milford, but we have been able to increase it. We were able to secure $300,000 to build Founder’s Walk in downtown, $2 million for Milford Hospital to purchase new and upgraded equipment and $250,000 to the YMCA to help renovate their second floor.
I currently serve as the Vice Chairman of the Housing Committee, a member of the Veterans Committee and the Children’s Committee. My positions on these committees allow me to fight for issues that are all close to my heart and important to Milford.
As a former small business owner I understand the challenges that many small businesses face. I have championed many bills to support and grow businesses not only in Connecticut but right here in Milford. In Milford alone, 22 businesses have taken advantage of our Small Business Express Program, bringing in over $1.5 million to help Milford businesses invest in their companies and expand. Through the Step Up Program, almost 100 Veterans have been hired in Milford. We must continue to work on ways to help our small businesses and manufacturers thrive in Connecticut.
I have held numerous leadership positions prior to my serving in the General Assembly. I started and chaired the St. Gabriel School goods and services auction which is their largest fundraiser. I am the President of the VFW Post 7788 Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Milford Irish Heritage Society, Milford Elks, the Audubon Society, Milford Historical Society, past board member of the Milford Downtown Business Association, Past President of the Milford Newcomers, and a member of the Milford Senior Center. I strongly believe in giving back to my community.
I have fought over-development in our town. I lead the fight against the recycling facility at 990 Naugatuck Avenue, and when United Illuminating wanted to come in to remove trees from our Historic District, I held a public informational session which demonstrated to UI our opposition and determination. In addition I have been a strong voice for our seniors and veterans, children and environment. I sponsored a bill last session that will allow more seniors to stay in their homes. I championed a bill that will allow Veterans to use their military skills as they relate to civilian licensing when they return from service.
This session I was able to get my bill passed which will allow people to drop off unwanted medications to their police departments 24 hours a day/7 days a week. This will help keep medications out of children’s reach as well as protecting our precious waterways.
I am proud I have been endorsed by numerous groups including the American Federation of Teachers, Connecticut Education Association, Association of Retired teachers of Connecticut, Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of CT, National Association of Social Workers, and the Sierra Club.
I have listened to and worked with my constituents and I have fought to have your voices heard in Hartford. I can only promise you that if you give me the privilege of reelecting me to another term as your state representative I will continue to listen to you and fight on your behalf. Thank you for your past support and I ask for your vote November 4th.
