A benefit is planned this month to raise money for headstones for a Milford couple killed by a motorist during the February blizzard.
Brenda and Kevin Tanski died following a Feb. 11 motor vehicle accident. They had been walking on Bridgeport Avenue with two of their children when Milford resident James Dorso II struck them with his vehicle.
Dorso pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges in connection with the accident. The case is still working its way through the courts.
The accident occurred at 11:19 a.m. at a time when heavy snow covered city streets and sidewalks. Dorso’s Ford Explorer struck the Tanski family as they were walking on Bridgeport Avenue near Cowles Street.
The couple’s children, Jenny Tanski, 21, and Courtney Tanski, 14, were taken to Bridgeport Hospital after the accident. Jenny suffered minor injuries and Courtney was not hurt.
A fund-raiser is planned Aug. 30 to raise money for headstones.
According to a press release announcing the fundraiser, “The February blizzard earlier this year left several families stranded in their homes. This led to many people walking to their destinations, including the Tanski family. This fatal Milford accident caused the couple to leave behind their four beautiful and loving children, as well as other members of their immediate family, and friends. This benefit is to raise money in order for the children to buy the gravestones that their parents deserve.”
The fundraiser will be held at Westwoods Ballroom, 85 Chase Lane, West Haven, Aug. 30 from 7 to 11 p.m.
There will be a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres, music and cash bar.
Tickets are $15 by Aug. 16 and $20 at the door.
