Senior Calendar: July 24— July 28

Wednesday, July 24 — 9:30 Rhythm and Blues, Intermediate Tai Chi, beading class; 10 band rehearsal, country western line dancing; 10:30 beginners Tai Chi; 1 French class, bingo, Wii bowling; 6-8 open for pool, cards, games; 6:30 cardio ball, $20 for six weeks, call 203-877-5131.

Thursday, July 25 — 9:15 Morning Glorys; 9:30 computer class, advance registration required; 10 personal history workshop, classes every other Thursday, Writer’s Unlimited bi-monthly, every other Thursday, line dance; 11 computer class, advance registration required; 1 knitting group, Wii bowling, bingo, beginners Spanish.

Friday, July 26 — 9:30-11:30 free haircuts for members every Monday, call for an appointment; 9 ceramics; 9:30 light weights, bowling, see Art White; 10 Wordsmith Writing Group; 10:30 Linda’s Choral Group; 1 Wii bowling, art class, free paint and brushes provided; 1:15 movie, The Magic of Belle Isle, ice cream social.

Sunday, July 28 — Center is open noon-4 for cards and bingo. Pool room is open Monday-Friday, 9-4:30 and Sunday, noon-4.

 

Menu — July 22-26: Monday, french toast, scrambled egg, sausage patty, fresh fruit; Tuesday, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, buttered corn; Wednesday, tossed salad topped with grilled chicken, fresh fruit; Thursday, pork roast with apples, sweet potatoes, peas; Friday, eggplant rollatini, tossed salad.

 

Lunch offered daily, 12:15, Monday-Friday. Complete dinner, $3, includes soup, dinner & dessert; sandwich dinner, $1.75, includes sandwich, soup & dessert; sandwich only, $1.25; soup only $.50. Peanut butter and jelly sandwich or tossed salad offered daily for $1.

 

Christmas in July tag sale — Annual fund-raising tag and bake sale, Friday, July 19, 9-noon.

 

Farmers market vouchers — Farmers Market vouchers will be available at the Milford Senior Center Tuesday, July 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 203-877-5131 for details. Vouchers are also available at The Department of Human Resources at 150 Gulf Street.

In order to become eligible for the vouchers, individuals must be Milford residents, have a monthly income of less than 185% of the poverty level, which is single persons $1,772; couples $2,392 and be over 60-years old or under 60 years of age, permanently disabled living in subsidized housing.

Trips

Sept. 15-23, Trains, Wineries & Treasures of California Tour includes Yosemite National Park, San Francisco, Sacramento, Lake Tahoe, Sonoma Wine Country & Napa Valley.

Oct. 4-9, Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta includes Santa Fe, Loretto Chapel, Santa Fe School of Cooking, Turquoise Trail, Old Town Albuquerque & the famous Balloon Fiesta. Book until June 14 only. Special presentation will be shown Friday, June 14 at 2 p.m.

Nov. 29-Dec. 7, Christmas on the Danube tour includes Wurzburg, Rothenburg, Nuremberg, Regensburg, Passau, Wauchau Valley, Hofburg Palace, Vienna and Christmas Markets.

 

Art classes — Art instructor Mike Voytek holds art classes each Friday, 1:30-3, Ceramics Room. Free paint and brushes.

 

Ahrens program — Service offered to individuals with cognitive impairments who require a supervised environment at the Center. The program co-coordinator, Rita Whiskeyman, may be contacted for more information at 203-877-5131. The program is funded by the City of Milford and United Way of Milford, Inc.

 

Low Vision group — meets the second Monday of the month, 10:30 a.m.

 

Memoir workshop — Workshop participants meet every other Thursday, 10-11:30, card room.

Writing is prompted by subjects presented by Judy, such as one’s childhood home, the look, the feel, and the smells and sounds that remind us of our favorite Christmas, our first car, television in the early days, a job we liked or disliked, friends through the years or lessons we’ve learned through our life.

Participants will create a self portrait for future generations.

Zumba classes — Six-week sessions, $20. Sign up at the front desk.

 

Center membership — Membership at the Center is open to Milford’s older adults, 55 and over. Annual fee: $10. Interested residents may sign up at the Center or call Mary Steinmetz, 203-877-5131.

 

Model Railroad Club — The formation of the Center’s Model Railroad Club has begun. Membership is open to all Milford residents age 55 and older.

The HO scale of model railroading will be used. Donations of any model railroading equipment or any scale and cash donations are accepted.

 

Treasure Chest Consignment and Craft Shop — Open Monday to Thursday, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; Friday, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Pool room open daily, and Monday & Thursdays, 6-8.

 

Volunteers sought — The Ahrens Program, at the Milford Senior Center, provides recreational, nutrition and educational activities for older adults with physical and cognitive impairments. This program enables caregivers several hours of respite while the participant is being supervised by staff members and volunteers.
